Description
La Manga del Mar Menor is one of the major national and international tourist destinations. In its 22 km length with a varied width from 100 to 1,200 metres and is home to dozens of beaches and coves where you can enjoy a quiet family holiday. It was created in the 17th century. At that time, the sea currents deposited the sands that they transported over a volcanic formation or bar. This tongue or arm of sand that accumulated separated the coastal lagoon (Mar Menor) from the Mediterranean Sea for almost its entire length and gave rise to the current Manga del Mar Menor.
La Manga is the home of Sport and it’s become a very popular destination for active tourists with the Mar Menor and Mediterranean Sea allowing all kinds of water sports: sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, paddle surfing, kayaking. There are also several great golf courses in Murcia and cycling, running, tennis, karting and triathlon are other popular sports in the area. There is the well known picturesque and tranquil Calblanque nature reserve which is located on the coast near Cabo de Palos.
La Manga Club, is famous for its spectacular 3 golf courses. La Manga Golf the luxurious extravagant playground of the footballers of many European football clubs. This luxury resort is just 35 minutes from Region de Murcia International Airport (RMU) and 75 minutes from Alicante.
During the off-season months, the population is just over 2250 people with all the usual services for healthcare, police, library, schools, etc., remaining accessible. When summer arrives, this figure increases significantly to over 250,000 in peak summer months.
There is something for everyone when it comes to eating out, “La Manga Strip” has many restaurants offering lively atmospheres and reasonably priced food. Here you will find many modern apartment and townhouse developments with spectacular panoramic sea views, in proximity to La Manga Golf course there are high end luxury apartments and stunning villas in development.
