Description
A breathtaking city set in a palm forest of over 200.000 palm trees, Elche is steeped in history and declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000. Dating back to the 12th century the historic quarter of Elche preserves part of its Muslim past yet hosting all that is modern in its attitude to shopping, dining out and nightlife. The city is famous for its leather footwear factories, calming and exquisite botanical gardens and the Palmeral from the Azure Blue Dome of the Basilica. Not to forget the famous Rio Safari Elche, a good place for families with children, where visitors can enjoy more than one hundred animal species. The city bursts into a fiesta on the 13th of August to celebrate the Lady of Elche “Nit de Lálba in Elche” with an incredible firework display like no other.
