Description
Has been the capital of the Spanish Navy´s Maritime Department (of the Mediterranean) since the 18th century. Located on the Mediterranean in the region of Murcia, lies the naval port of Cartagena, influenced by the Romans and today a docking destination of the cruise liners. The city has many historical walking routes to visit attractions like the amphitheatre, the Peral submarine and Naval museum, in addition to the quiet side-street cafés, boutique shops and the modern promenade. The main festival takes place in the last two weeks of September, called Cartagineses and Romans based on the second Punic War on characters such as Hannibal and his winning rival Cornelius Scipio. Located conveniently 20 min from the Internation Murcia Corvera airport.
